How to Prepare for a Design Project

Whether you’ve just booked a design consultation or you’re still exploring your options, one thing is true: starting a design project is exciting—but it can also feel a little overwhelming.

Clients often ask, “What do I need to do before we begin?” And while I’ll always walk you through next steps, here are a few ways you can prepare yourself (and your home) for a successful experience.

Get Clear on Your Goals

What’s not working in your space? What’s the ideal outcome? Maybe your living room doesn’t feel inviting. Maybe you’re tired of a bedroom that never quite came together. Or maybe you’re entering a new chapter—like welcoming a baby, downsizing, or finally making time for yourself.

Clarity around your goals helps me design with purpose.

Start Noticing What You’re Drawn To

You don’t need to know your “style”—but noticing what resonates with you is a great start. Save images that make you pause (even if they seem different from each other). Pin them, screenshot them, or just keep a folder of what you love.

This collection doesn’t have to make sense to you. That’s my job. I’ll help identify the common threads and build a vision that reflects your taste and lifestyle.

Know Your Budget Range

It’s okay if you’re still figuring this out—but having a general idea of your investment range makes everything smoother. Whether you’re focused on a single room or tackling a full remodel, I’ll help you align your goals with realistic numbers so there are no surprises along the way.

Being honest about your budget allows me to guide you toward the right solutions from the start.

Trust the Process

Design is creative, collaborative, and often full of moving parts. There will be decisions, revisions, and yes—occasional delays. But behind the scenes, I’m always working to make the process feel as effortless as possible for my clients.

One of the most helpful things to remember at the start is to allow yourself to trust the process—design takes time, but each step is purposeful and leads to something lasting.

Every beautiful space starts with a conversation. If you’re ready to begin, I’d love to hear about your goals and explore what’s possible—together.
